NATCHEZ — Streets in Downtown Natchez will be temporarily closed starting Monday evening while scenes are being filmed for the 2020 movie, “Breaking News in Yuba County,” directed by Tate Taylor.

The film’s location manager, David Rumble, said between 6 p.m. Monday and approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday, a section of Commerce and Main streets would temporarily close, allowing no parking or driving during filming, while Natchez police provide intermittent traffic control for drivers and pedestrians on Rankin, Union and Martin Luther King Jr. streets as the cameras are rolling.

Rumble said no parking would be permitted on Commerce Street between State and Franklin streets beginning 6 p.m. Monday through 11 p.m. Thursday.

Starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday through 1:30 p.m. Thursday, a section of Main Street between Rankin and Pearl streets and Commerce Street between Franklin and Pearl streets will also be closed for parking or driving.

Rumble said all businesses would remain open during filming. However, pedestrians who are approaching the camera’s angle would be intermittently held for a few minutes at a time between shots.

Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the production crew would pay the officers wages to direct traffic and some police vehicles would be used as props for the film.

“We just ask the public to be patient with us,” Armstrong said. “This movie production means a lot for the City of Natchez and this economy and this is great publicity for our city as well. While it may have some inconvenience, we will certainly be there to assist the public in moving around those areas that will be utilized for the movie.”
