NATCHEZ— Services for Martha Baker, 92, of Natchez, who died June 10, 2019, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joan Gandy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Baker was born July 17, 1926, in Natchez, the daughter of Thomas J. Meath and Martha Briggs Meath.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She received a degree as a registered nurse and trained in Vicksburg. She worked at Jeff Davis Hospital until she retired. Mrs. Baker was a volunteer at Natchez Community Hospital for 30 years.
Baker was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John R. Baker Sr.
Survivors include two sons, John R. Baker Jr. and wife, Carol, of Natchez, and Thomas Glenn Baker and wife, Donna, of Madison; five grandchildren, Andrew, Josh, Gavin, Timothy, and Matthew; four great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Paul Baker of Florida and Jeffery Baker of Slidell, La.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Baker, Matt Baker, Rush Mosby, Chuck Caldwell, Josh Baker and Ron Collins.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Merit Health Natchez and the caregivers.
