NATCHEZ — Five candidates are vying for the Adams County Sheriff’s position and the campaigning is competitive with candidates placing signs throughout the county.

So far, incumbent Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten has raised more money and spent more money than not only his opponents in the sheriff’s race but also any candidates in any Adams County races so far.

Patten reported $18,989.53 in campaign contributions, including $16,055 in itemized donations, and he reported $15,801.23 in expenditures.

Patten’s closest opponent in campaign contributions in the sheriff’s race is Jerry Ford, who reported $6,300 in contributions.

That is just one highlight of campaign finance reports that were filed in the Circuit Clerk’s office on May 10 in compliance with Mississippi’s campaign finance laws.

Contributions must be itemized if they exceed $200 from a particular person, business or entity, the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office said in its “Campaign Finance Guide.”

A disbursement must be included within the itemized total of disbursements “if the year-to-date aggregate total of the disbursement(s) made to a particular person, business, or entity exceeds $200.

“A disbursement separately itemized on the ‘Itemized Disbursements’ must be identified by the recipient’s name and address, the date(s) and amount(s) for the reporting period and aggregate year-to-date total, and purpose of the disbursement.”

Below we offer breakdowns of campaign finance reports in the Adams County Sheriff’s race; Adams County Supervisor races in Districts 1 through 5 and the Tax Assessor’s race.
