FERRIDAY — Washington Heights subdivision residents will have to wait longer for a new sewage line to be installed after bids on the project were still too high to be funded.

Tuesday evening during a regularly scheduled meeting, the Concordia Parish Police Jury had to reject bids for replacing outdated sewage lines at Washington Heights subdivision that have been abandoned for more than a decade, said Secretary-Treasurer, Sandi Burley.

In order for the Concordia Parish Sewer Board take over the sewage system for Washington Heights, Burley said the system would have to be replaced.

The jury secured a Community Development Block Grant with no match requirement, which caps at approximately $404,000, Burley said.

When the first bids on the project were $200,000 over that amount, Burley said the scope for the project had to be revised and included fewer houses to be tied to the sewage line. Even after this revision, the lowest bid received in April was still $130,000 more than the amount allotted by the grant, Burley said.

In addition to a second redesign, Burley said the parish would apply for additional funding opportunities should bids come in higher than the grant for a third time.
