VIDALIA — A cheering crowd overfilled the grandstands at Dee Faircloth Viking Stadium on Friday night as 84 graduating members of the Vidalia High School Class of 2019 were seated on the field along with school dignitaries.
The dignitaries recognized honor graduates and special honor graduates before calling each of the 84 graduates to come up, one at a time, to receive their diplomas.
Senior Montserrat Gonzalez started the ceremony by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Senior Macie Malyn Seyfarth welcomed the attendees and shared with them her thoughts.
“We share a common unbreakable bond as classmates of 2019,” Seyfarth said to her classmates. “Stand back, take a breath and realize where you are.”
Salutatorian Sara Rhiannon Cockerham, daughter of Greg Cockerham and Kathy Slavent, was next at the podium to give her salutatory address.
“My father told me in life you will not be given anything, you will have to work for it,” Cokerham said. “Thank you to the teachers who made us work for it.”
Valedictorian Thomas Nguyen, son of Hong and Diep Nguyen, gave his address just before the names of the Class of 2019 were called.
“Setting a goal gives you a purpose and something to shoot for,” Nguyen said.
