NATCHEZ — Services for Lucius McCutchen Butts Jr., 92, of Natchez, who died Friday, May 10, 2019, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 305 South Commerce St., in Natchez with the Rev. Kenneth Ritter officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Butts was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Vicksburg at Street Sanitorium, the son of Lucius McCutchen Butts Sr. and Russe Blanks Butts.
He was educated in Natchez schools until he was sent to Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, Ga., halfway through his junior year — graduating May 1944. He attended Tulane University where he was initiated into Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, leaving Tulane in the fall of 1944 to enlist in the U.S. Navy immediately after his 18thbirthday.  He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946.
He graduated from Louisiana State University in February 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in business management.
His career included working on the survey crew building the Johns-Manville plant, salesman for the Tom L. Ketchings Company, WNAT Radio Station and then owner of the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company.  He was owner of Lucius Butts Insurance Agency for a number of years before affiliating with Byrne Insurance Agency where he was active until his death.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rotary Club of Natchez and the Pilgrimage Garden Club. He was also a founding member of Pandella Hunting Club.
Butts had served as president of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Capt. Edward Scott Butts and Lucy McCutchen Butts and Handsel Burrow Blanks and Ethel Roper Blanks; and his wife, Hilda Arny Butts, who he met at LSU in November 1950 —they married in January 1951 and Hilda died March 30, 1988 and his wife, Jaqueline McCarthy Butts who died Feb. 14, 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Lucius McCutchen Butts III and wife, Penny, and Russell Blanks Butts and wife, Stephanie; six grandchildren, Amanda Butts Carroll and husband, Trey, Elizabeth Butts Singletary and husband, Brian, Helen Butts Field and husband, Madison, Russell Blanks Butts Jr. and wife, Hannah, Hayden Scott Butts and Molly Butts Adams and husband, Josh; and two great-grandchildren, Douglas Brian and Ann McCutchen Singletary.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
