WOODVILLE — A Woodville teenager faces a charge of murder after a Wednesday afternoon shooting killed a Woodville man and injured another teenager, authorities said.
Floyd Lawrence, 16, of 128 Harris St., Woodville, is in custody on a charge of murder at the Woodville Jail said Woodville Police Chief Jessie Stewart.
Lawrence is charged with killing Lakendris Chisholm, 24, of Woodville by shooting him multiple times, Stewart said, in a shootout that occurred approximately 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Stop and Go and Natchez streets in Woodville.
“He (Lawrence) will be tried as an adult,” Stewart said. “It happened in front of a daycare center. It is lucky none of the kids got injured.”
Stewart said a 17-year-old male also was shot several times.
“He was transported by airlift to Jackson where he is in critical condition,” Stewart said. “He is still in the hospital.”
Stewart said Lawrence’s mother brought him to the Woodville Police Department office at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, and Stewart was able to arrest him without incident.
“Right around 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. (Thursday) morning, we were able to recover the weapon used in the murder,” Stewart said, adding the weapon is a 9mm Glock. “After investigation, we found out the weapon was stolen out of St. Francesville, Louisiana.”
Stewart said the quick arrest of Lawrence would not have been possible without the help of other law enforcement agencies, including the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team, ACSO Sheriff Travis Patten, Wilkinson County Sheriff Reginald Jackson and his staff as well as the Woodville Police Department staff.
“I would like to thank them all,” Stewart said. “This individual who committed this murder has had numerous run-ins with us in the past.”
Stewart said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
Stewart asks that anyone who has information on the case call him at 601-888-4411 and sources would be kept confidential.
