Prep softball round up: Natchez High softball games don’t happen

NATCHEZ — Natchez High School’s junior varsity and varsity softball teams were scheduled to have some competition at the end of the week. Unfortunately, something odd happened along the way — there were no games to be played.
First, Natchez High ended up defeating MHSAA Region 6-5A opponent Wingfield High School by forfeit. That game was scheduled to take place Thursday afternoon at Wingfield High School in Jackson. The forfeit win gave the Lady Bulldogs an overall record of 3-2 and a region record of 1-2.
What’s even more bizarre is that these two teams were originally scheduled to face each other at Wingfield on Monday, April 1 — yes, April Fool’s Day.
Then, Natchez High was supposed to play host to Class 6A Terry High School Friday afternoon at the Natchez-Adams Girls Softball Complex for a JV and varsity tilt, but those games were cancelled. Lady Bulldogs head coach Bonita Hamilton said a change of coaches at Terry led to the games not taking place.
Hamilton said that a varsity doubleheader will likely take place when Natchez High plays at Terry on Friday, March 29.
But before that happens, the Lady Bulldogs will host Franklin County High School on Tuesday, March 26 with the JV game at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
Albany 9, Delta Charter 2
FERRIDAY — The Albany High School Lady Hornets defeated the Delta Charter School Lady Storm 9-2 Friday afternoon. No other information on the game was available.
Delta Charter (6-7) plays two games today at the Forest High School Tournament in Forest, La. The Lady Storm will take on Glenmora High School at 11 a.m. and host Forest High School at 2 p.m.
St. Frederick 15, Delta Charter 8 (Thurs.)
FERRIDAY — The Delta Charter School Lady Storm lost to the St. Frederick High School Lady Warriors 15-8 Thursday afternoon in an LHSAA District 2-1A game. No other information on this game was available.
Delta Charter dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in district play.
Oak Hill 5, Monterey 4 (Thurs.)
HINESTON, La. — The Oak Hill High School Lady Rams scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 5-4 win over the Monterey High School Lady Wolves Thursday afternoon in an LHSAA District 5-B game.
Oak Hill jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings of play before Monterey rallied back in the middle innings to make it a 4-4 game in the top of the fifth inning.
Andy Gray led the Lady Wolves at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Both teams had eight hits in the game. Defensively, Monterey committed two errors and Oak Hill had three errors.
Monterey (3-6, 1-1) plays host to a doubleheader today. The Lady Wolves will take on Albany High School at 12 p.m. and Franklin Parish High School at 2 p.m.
