BROOKHAVEN — The Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs did better at the plate against Brookhaven High School Tuesday afternoon than they did 11 days earlier, but the result was the same — the Lady Panthers getting a run-rule win.

Brookhaven scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to defeat Natchez High 14-3 in four innings to remain undefeated in MHSAA Region 6-5A.

Madi Miller was the winning pitcher after allowing three runs on seven hits. Carleigh Sproulls was charged with the loss as she gave up 14 runs on eight hits, the majority of which were bunt singles.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a good start by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. But the Lady Panthers responded with a three-run rally in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good. Brookhaven added four runs in the bottom of the second for a 7-2 lead.

Natchez High scored one run in the top of the third inning, but Brookhaven’s scoring barrage in the bottom of the fourth ended the game early.

Sproulls went 2-for-2 two doubles while Ava Reese was 2-for-2 with a triple and Madison Baskin had a double for the Lady Bulldogs, who had seven hits. Both teams struggled defensively, with the Lady Bulldogs committing five errors and the Lady Panthers having four errors.

Natchez High (1-3, 0-2) plays at Wingfield High School in Region 6-5A action Thursday at 6 p.m.

Vidalia 11, Rayville 1 (5 innings)

VIDALIA — Sara Cockerham pitched five innings of two-hit ball and Skylar Adams went 2-for-2 as the Vidalia High School Lady Vikings cruised to an 11-1 win over the Rayville High School Lady Hornets in five innings Tuesday afternoon in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

After giving up one run in the first inning, Cockerham pitched four straight scoreless innings. She struck out six batters and walked just two. She also helped her cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Lady Vikings took the lead for good with a two-run rally in the bottom of the first inning. They plated five runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 7-1 advantage before adding two runs each in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.

Shelbi Cross went 2-for-4 with a double and Madison Bennett had a double for the Lady Vikings, who had nine base hits and committed just one error.

Vidalia (7-6, 2-2) travels to Jonesville to take on Block High School in a varsity-only match-up at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Monterey 18, Grace Christian 1

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Allie Lipsey belted three extra-base hits and Hannah Hitt pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings as the Monterey High School Lady Wolves took care of the Grace Christian School Lady Warriors 18-1 in three innings Monday afternoon in the LHSAA District 5-B opener for both teams.

Lipsey had two doubles and a triple in going 3-for-3 to lead Monterey’s 17-hit attack. Madeline Mount and Madison Passman each went 2-for-2 while Sarah Gray was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Monterey scored four runs in the top of the first inning before exploding for 13 runs in the top of the second inning. Both teams scored one run in the third inning. Grace Christian was held to just two hits in the game.

Monterey (3-5, 1-0) plays at Oak Hill High School Thursday at 4 p.m.

Oak Grove 12, Delta Charter 2

OAK GROVE, La. — Lily McCarthy drove in two runs with a double, but it was not nearly enough for Delta Charter School as the Lady Storm lost to the Oak Grove High School Lady Tigers 12-2 in five innings Monday afternoon in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Oak Grove put the game out of reach early, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Tigers added three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 11-0 before McCarthy’s two-run double made it an 11-2 game in the top of the fourth. However, the Lady Tigers run-ruled the Lady Storm with one run in the bottom of the fifth.

Sydney Watts took the loss on the mound and Jaden Boydstun went 2-for-3.

Delta Charter (6-5, 1-1) hosts St. Frederick High School Thursday with the varsity game at 5 p.m., followed by the junior varsity game.
