NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for the next Natchez-Adams School Board appointee.
The position will soon become available after Reneé Wall announced she would be stepping down as a school board member in May for family and career purposes.
District 5 Supervisor, Calvin Butler said he and the Board of Supervisors would soon be conducting interviews to determine who would fill her seat, and may vote on the position by the next regularly scheduled meeting.
During Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting with the Board of Supervisors, District 1 Supervisor Mike Lazarus recommended Diane Bunch, a professor at Alcorn State University who had interviewed for the position in 2017 before Wall had been appointed.
“I’ve talked to Bunch the other day,” he said, “and she is still interested in serving on the school board. … We’ve already interviewed her not too long ago … and she still wants to serve.”
District 2 Supervisor David Carter said he had also nominated Bunch for the position less than two years ago.
“She is sharp,” Carter said.
District 4 Supervisor, Ricky Gray, said the board needed to properly advertise the position’s availability first before jumping to a decision.
“I don’t have a problem with (Bunch), but I believe we need to stick to the process we already have,” Gray said. “I don’t know if anyone else has shown interest in being on the school board, but we need to at least give them the chance to. By the next meeting, we should have heard whether anyone else wants the position, and no one has spoken out then we can go on and appoint her.”
Butler said those interested in the school board position should call the Adams County Board of Supervisors office at 601-442-2431 or contact the supervisor of their respective districts.
