VIDALIA — The Challenger Softball League provides opportunities for individuals with mental and or physical challenges to play the game of softball.
With the help of the Vidalia Girls Softball League, the Challenger League will make dreams come true for those individuals with special needs and those who are in wheelchairs.
Last year, the league had 70 players and 10 coaches for five teams.
“This year we want more players,” said Lou Ann Jordan, chairperson of the league. “We want more coaches and we want more sponsors. All of the equipment is provided, all of the bats, balls and the gloves that the participants need.”
Jordan said the league also is looking for volunteers to serve as players’ buddies, who help players at bat and in the field.
Registration is underway through March 23 at Southern Flair Candles, 1106 Carter St., Vidalia. Players pay no fee to participate.
After registration is complete, try outs will be held and teams will be selected.
Opening ceremonies will be April 27.
