MONROE, La. — Brett Walsworth went 4-for-4 with a double and Peyton Fort struck out 12 batters in four shutout innings as the Vidalia High School Vikings took care of the St. Frederick High School Warriors 6-2 Tuesday night.

Fort got the start and mowed down one St. Frederick batter after another. He allowed just one base hit and did not walk a single batter.

Vidalia got the scoring right off the bat with two runs in the top of the first inning. But the Vikings didn’t score again until the top of the fifth, when they scored two key runs to give them a 4-0 lead. St. Frederick was probably glad to see someone other than Fort on the mound when the bottom of the fifth arrived.

That’s because the Warriors tallied two runs to cut the Vikings’ lead in half. However, the Warriors themselves could not keep the rally going over the final two innings.

Instead, Vidalia plated one run each in the top of the sixth and the top of the seventh. Both teams had their share of base hits — Vidalia with 11 and St. Frederick with nine — but it was the Vikings that took more advantage of having runners in scoring position than the Warriors did.

In addition to Walsworth’s four-hit performance, Nick Melton went 2-for-4 for the Vikings.

Vidalia (2-0) plays host to LaSalle High School at 6 p.m. Thursday in its home opener.

WINNSBORO, La. — Tristan Weatherly took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Vidalia High School Vikings defeated the Family Community Christian School Warriors 6-1 Monday night.

Weatherly ended up going five-plus innings of shutout ball and struck out six batters. Dylan LaPrairie came on in relief and gave up one run in one and two-thirds inning. Nick Melton got the final out to seal the deal.

“Tristan had a good performance for us,” Vikings head coach Michael Norris said.

This game was added to Vidalia’s schedule, Norris said, and it was a good for the Vikings to finally get a game in.

“We had five games cancelled last week because of the weather,” Norris said.

Vidalia (1-0) scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added a run each in the top of the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead. A run in the top of the fifth and another run in the top of the sixth gave the Vikings a 6-0 lead before the Warriors scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Melton as well as Tony Tolliver went 2-for-4 at the plate. Tolliver and Dominik Harveston scored two runs while Brett Walsworth drove in two runs.
