LECOMPTE, La. — Maddy Green went 4-for-4 for Monterey High School, but the Lady Wolves’ comeback attempt fell a few runs short as they lost to the Rapides High School Lady Mustangs 8-6 Monday afternoon.

Rapides appeared to be in control of this game after taking an 8-3 lead after five innings of play. But Monterey would not go away quietly. The Lady Wolves scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and one run in the top of the seventh to cut the Lady Mustangs’ lead down to just two runs.

Unfortunately, the Lady Wolves were unable to get any more runs across. Green had four of Monterey’s six hits. Andy Gray had a triple and Sarah Jane Gray had a single.

Avery Cupit was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in three-plus innings. Hannah Hitt allowed one earned run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout in three innings of relief.

Monterey (0-1) plays at Harrisonburg High School on Friday with the varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the junior varsity game.
