RIDGECREST — A Concordia Parish Academy of Math, Science and Technology student has been named Concordia Parish Student of the Year because of his academic and extracurricular activities.
Michael Anders, 10, a fifth-grade student at the academy, said he is pleased to be the student of the year.
Anders, who lives in Vidalia with his parents, William “Rusty” and Lori Anders, is not only an outstanding student, but he also serves as president of the academy’s 4H Club.
“It stands for head, hands, heart and health,” Anders said of 4H. “It’s basically a club where you get to know your community better and learn more things about trying to help your community.”
Michael said he enjoys studying math and robotics in school.
Outside of the 4H Club and school, Michael said he likes to be involved in other community organizations.
“I used to play baseball,” Michael said, “but now I do Boy Scouts of America, which I like more anyway.”
What he enjoys most about Boy Scouts, Michael said, is learning about his surroundings and going to camp.
In the future, Michael said he would like to become an architect because that would give him the opportunity to use math to design things.
“I want to design buildings like towers and skyscrapers because I build with Lego blocks, and I design many things almost every day,” Michael said.
Above all, Michael is an outstanding student.
“Michael is very disciplined at his work,” said Brandon Rowe, academy robotics instructor. “He is also a great team player and he will go and help others if they need help. He’s just a great all around student and person on the robotics team.”
