WCCA girls beat Discovery Christian to advance to championship in MAIS District 4-A Tournament

WOODVILLE — Gracie Cavin finished with a game-high 13 points as the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams defeated the Discovery Christian School Lady Lions 42-13 Thursday afternoon in a girls’ semifinal game at the MAIS District 4-A Tournament at WCCA.

Lexi Freeman added eight points while Kenzie Bryant, Caroline Ford, and Mary Allyn McGraw each had four points for No. 1 seed WCCA. Hannah Williams led No. 4 seed Discovery Christian with six points.

WCCA (9-15) will take on Rebul Academy in the girls’ championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday. Discovery Christian (no record given) will take on Mt. Salus Christian School in the girls’ consolation game Saturday at 12 p.m. No. 3 seed Rebul Academy upset No. 2 seed Mt. Salus Christian School 30-21 in the other girls’ semifinal game.

Just like in the boys’ bracket, all of these teams automatically advanced to next week’s MAIS Class A South State Tournament because there are only four teams in this district. Where each team will be seeded will be determined Saturday afternoon.
