VIDALIA — Delta Charter School’s graduating class has its own royal member who is as passionate about her family, friends and staying active in school as she is about working with others to solve the world’s issues.

Madelynn White was recently crowned Miss Vidalia 2019, a fact that she is both “excited and shocked” about, she said.

“I didn’t get nervous until right before I was to walk onstage for the evening wear competition,” White said, “but right after that I was OK for the rest of the competition.”

When she applied for the Miss Vidalia pageant a few months ago, White said she had to write a short biography about herself — her likes, hobbies and passions.

White said she enjoys cheerleading, playing tennis, cooking and spending time with her family.

One judge asked her what her most treasured memory is, White said.

“My most treasured memory is the day my step-dad (Jason Yelverton) was brought into my life,” she said.

Though she was very young when her mom, Michelle, married her stepfather, White said she remembers him being her father figure and a big part of many firsts throughout her life — her first steps, her first bike ride, and now her first time representing her school as Miss Vidalia.

White said she also looks up to her mom as a role model.

“She’s a very hard-working woman and very caring,” White said. “She pushes me to do the best I can in life without any hesitation.”

White is a member of the National Beta Club and the National Society of High School Scholars and was recently accepted to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she plans to study nursing and one day become an obstetrician-gynecologist, she said.

If she could change the world, White said she would do something to solve the problem on division among politicians.

“That way, we could all come together and solve the world’s problems instead of debating about them,” she said.
