BROOKHAVEN — Thanks to a big first quarter, the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars rolled to a 54-43 win over the Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave Monday night.
Emily Claire Felder led Brookhaven Academy with a game-high 22 points. The Lady Cougars dominated the action on both ends of the court in the first quarter and by the time the quarters was over, they led Cathedral 24-5.
And that proved to be too much of a deficit for the Lady Green Wave to overcome even though the final three quarters were more competitive and much closer between the two teams.
Jan Case added 11 points and Anna Brantley Warren had 10 points for the Lady Cougars. Baylee Graning led the Lady Green Wave with 15 points while Ryleigh Probst and Madeline Smith chipped in with 10 points each.
Cathedral (5-18) next plays on Friday at Adams County Christian School.
Franklin County girls 61, Wilkinson County 53

At one point in the first quarter, Franklin County led Wilkinson County 26-15 before the Lady Wildcats went on an 8-2 run to cut the lead down to five points. But the Lady Wildcats scored the last five minutes of the opening quarter for a 33-23 lead.
Trailing 45-33 after three quarters of play, the Lady Wildcats went on short runs during the fourth quarter, but each time they did, the Lady Bulldogs responded.
Wilkinson County (3-14, 1-5) plays at Port Gibson High School Friday at 6 p.m.

Once again, Natchez High had trouble getting out of the gate and never was able to recover. The Lady Bulldogs found themselves down 22-2 at the end of the first quarter and 37-9 by the time halftime rolled around.
It was more of the same in the third quarter as Forest Hill outscored Natchez High 24-9 for a commanding 61-18 advantage.

Natchez High (11-13, 1-4) returns to Jackson Friday night when it plays at Wingfield High School in its Region 6-5A regular-season finale.
