NATCHEZ — Poly Pry Band of Baton Rouge will perform a live show Friday in downtown Natchez.
The show will be this year’s first Fourth Friday event hosted by the Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries store, at 515 Main St., Natchez.
The show starts at 7 p.m. and will last until 10 p.m. Friday and the cover charge is $10 per person.
On the fourth Friday of every month people gather at the Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries store to enjoy live music, food and drinks, said the store’s owner Jim Smith.
“We have a lot of people that are from here that are super talented, both music and artists,” Smith said.
A year ago in December, Smith said, he decided to begin hosting various bands and artists at the Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries venue on the fourth Friday of every month.
“Fourth Friday arose, because we wanted to create something that’s open to everybody and to try to figure out a way to make money,” Smith said. “It’s another source of income.”
The Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries store has an open courtyard where the musicians perform.
“The visitors that come in, they love the store. They love the space,” Smith said.
A collapsed building on Commerce Street, Smith said, will soon be added on to and connected to the courtyard of the Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries store.
Smith said he plans to utilize the extra space to create something special.
Smith said the purpose of Fourth Friday is to bring people together and expose them to the artwork of local artists who derive an income from their work.
Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries specializes in selling architectural salvage from Mississippi and Louisiana and features original works of art by local artists.
In the future, Smith said he hopes to continue hosting the Fourth Friday events every month to bring more people downtown.
May will mark the two-year anniversary since Smith opened the Natchez Architectural and Art Discoveries store.
Smith said space is limited so he encourages people who want to attend to call 601-870-8330.
