FERRIDAY — Senior guard and co-captain Kierra Neal scored a season-high 32 points as the Delta Charter School Lady Storm snapped a two-game losing streak with a 52-41 win over the Oak Grove High School Lady Tigers on Saturday afternoon in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.
Delta Charter’s defense made it tough for Oak Grove not only to make shots, but to get shots off in the first half. The Lady Storm held the Lady Tigers to just two points in the opening quarter and six points in the second quarter on its way to a 23-8 halftime lead.
The Lady Storm outscored the Lady Tigers 12-10 in the third quarter for a 35-18 lead. Oak Grove finally woke up in the fourth quarter and scored 23 points, but it could not make nearly enough stops to really make a game of it. Delta Charter put up 17 points in the final eight minutes.
Cloi Cummings contributed for the Lady Storm with 11 points. Priya Hill led the Lady Tigers with 23 points.
Delta Charter (12-13, 5-3) plays at St. Frederick High School on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.

FERRIDAY — Led by Taevon Anderson and Demon White, the Oak Grove High School Tigers used a big second quarter to break open a close game as they went on to beat the Delta Charter School Storm 74-46 Saturday afternoon in LHSAA District 2-1A action.
A back-and-forth first quarter ended with Oak Grove only up one point on Delta Charter, 14-13. However, the second quarter belonged to the Tigers, especially on the offensive end as they scored 27 points to 14 points for the Storm for a 41-27 halftime advantage.
The Tigers’ defense continued to put the pressure on the Storm throughout the second half. Oak Grove (10-11, 6-2) outscored Delta Charter 13-8 in the third quarter and 20-11 in the fourth quarter.

Forest Hill girls 42,
Natchez High 36
NATCHEZ — In a highly competitive, yet low-scoring game between Forest Hill High School and Natchez High School, the Lady Patriots escaped with a 42-36 win over the Lady Bulldogs Friday night in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game.
What hurt Natchez High the most were a rough third quarter and the inability to make key free throws down the stretch. And that was after the Lady Bulldogs went into halftime with a 20-16 lead.
As for what went wrong for the home team in the third quarter, Lady Bulldogs head coach ShaRhonda Gipson said, “They didn’t execute. We missed way too many easy shots around the basket. And we lost by six.”
And that allowed the Lady Patriots to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 14-4 for a 30-24 advantage at the end of the quarter. They also played good defense throughout the game on junior guard/forward Candi Gray. Even though she led them in scoring, Gray was held to 12 points.
Natchez High would have at the very least had a better opportunity to win the game had it done better at the free-throw line when it counted the most.
“We missed seven free throws in a row in the last minute and a half of the game,” Gipson said.
Kelsey McNeal scored six points for the Lady Bulldogs. Teanna Howard finished with 12 points and Geonna Marshall had nine points to lead the Lady Patriots.
Natchez High (11-10, 1-2) plays host to Pearl High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Natchez High got off to a good start and led Forest Hill 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Patriots responded with a 16-12 advantage in the second quarter to go into halftime up 28-26.
Then the Patriots asserted themselves on both ends of the court in the second half. They outscored the Bulldogs 25-16 in the third quarter and 16-10 in the fourth quarter.
Jadarius Stampley led the Bulldogs with 19 points and James Singleton added 16 points. Charles Credit, one of the Bulldogs’ leading scorers, was held in check by the Patriots and ended up with just five points.

This was the second win in a row for ACCS’ varsity girls’ basketball team and, more importantly, put the Lady Rebels at 2-0 in district play. And for the first three quarters, they did so with defense.
The Lady Rebels took a 10-7 lead over Silliman after one quarter of play, then edged past the Lady Wildcats 8-6 in the second quarter for an 18-13 lead at intermission. The Lady Wildcats tried to respond after the half as they outscored the Lady Rebels 7-6 in the third quarter to cut the lead to four points, 24-20. Tyler Lindsey and Wes Stockstill led a balanced scoring attack for ACCS with nine points each. Glaston Magee added eight points and Andrew Merriett chipped in with seven points.
ACCS got off to a slow start and trailed Silliman 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. But the Rebels answered in a big way as they outscored the Wildcats 15-4 in the second quarter for a 22-17 halftime lead.
The Wildcats weren’t able to put much of a dent in the lead as they only outscored the Rebels by one point, 11-10, in the third quarter. Once again the Rebels responded, this time by outscoring the Wildcats 17-15 in the fourth quarter.
