NATCHEZ — Landon Krueger scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute of the second half to give the Adams County Christian School Rebels a 2-1 win over the Brookhaven Academy Cougars Monday afternoon in an MAIS Division III South, District 4 match.
“We came out a little bit slow out of the gate. But the guys picked it up after about the 20th minute,” Rebels head coach Jimmy Allgood said. “They started playing their kind of trapping, passing, and attacking. It paid off at the 37th minute.”
That’s when Nolan Owens finally broke a scoreless match to give ACCS a 1-0 lead that it took into halftime. As well as well into the second half before the Cougars tied it at 1-1 in the 65th minute. However, that would be one of the very few scoring chances Brookhaven Academy would have after intermission.
Rebels goalkeeper Cody Brown finished with 12 saves, with the majority of them in the first half.
“After the half, I changed and added an offsides trap on defense. That created a few more opportunities (for us),” Allgood said. “A beautiful pass into the box and Landon scored on a header. Second half, my guys played a lot more aggressive soccer, winning more of the 50-50 balls.”
ACCS (6-2, 4-1) steps out of district play and will travel to Monroe, La. to take on River Oaks School Wednesday at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity match to follow.
