FERRIDAY — Tierra Spurs scored 16 points and SheKayla Miller had 12 points to lead four Ferriday High School players in double figures as the Lady Trojans rolled to a 66-24 win over the Vidalia High School Lady Vikings Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

This match-up between Concordia Parish rivals turned out to be like most meetings between the two teams over the last 15-plus years — a one-sided game won by Ferriday.

The Lady Trojans controlled the action and the pace throughout the first three quarters. They jumped out to a 22-7 lead over Vidalia at the end of the first quarter and then proceeded to outscore the Lady Vikings 21-3 in the second quarter for a 43-10 lead at the half.

The third quarter wasn’t much better for Vidalia as the Lady Vikings scored just eight points and gave up 16 points to the Lady Trojans to head into the fourth quarter down 59-18.

Aaliyah Gray added 11 points and ShaKeyla McCray chipped in with 10 points for the Lady Trojans. Keeda Lutcher led the Lady Vikings with eight points.

Vidalia (2-13, 0-3) hosts Mangham High School Thursday at 6 p.m. Ferriday (16-4, 3-1) plays at Rayville High School Thursday at 6 p.m.

Copiah Academy boys 63,

Cathedral 33

NATCHEZ — On the second night of a back-to-back, Cathedral High School didn’t have nearly enough firepower to stay with Copiah Academy as the Colonels rolled to a 63-33 win over the Green Wave Tuesday night.

The first quarter was a harbinger of things to come for Cathedral. The Green Wave was overmatched by Copiah Academy and by the time the quarter was over, they trailed the Colonels 22-8. While the visitors’ offense slowed down some in the second quarter, their defense did not as the Colonels outscored the Green Wave 11-5 for a 33-13 halftime lead.

Cathedral tried to cut into that 20-point deficit in the third quarter, but to no avail as Copiah Academy put up 15 points to the Green Wave’s 13 points for a 48-26 lead. The Colonels capped off the decisive win with a 15-7 edge in the fourth quarter.

Dewey Shannon led Copiah Academy with 21 points and Jared Little poured in 13 points. Colby Passman led the Green Wave with 11 points and Jones Richardson added nine points.

Cathedral (4-11) hosts Monterey High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Copiah Academy girls 52, Cathedral 25

NATCHEZ — Copiah Academy’s duo of Bella Giddens and McKinna Smith combined to score more points than Cathedral High School had as a team as the Lady Colonels defeated the Lady Green Wave 52-25 Tuesday night.

Giddens led all scorers with 19 points and Smith finished with 14 points for MAIS Class AAAA Copiah Academy. The Lady Colonels had their way with Class AAA Cathedral on both ends of the court during the first quarter, which ended with the visitors racing out to a 23-2 lead over the Lady Green Wave.

Which was probably a good thing for the Lady Colonels because the final three quarters were a lot more competitive. They were actually outscored by the Lady Green Wave 7-6 in the second quarter, but still took a 29-9 lead into halftime.

Hailey Ellis led the Lady Green Wave with 13 points and Madeline Smith had six points.

Cathedral (5-11) plays host to Monterey High School at 6 p.m. Friday.

Natchez High girls 49, North Pike 41

SUMMIT — The fourth quarter proved to be the difference for Natchez High School as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the North Pike High School Lady Jaguars 49-41 Tuesday night.

Neither team was able to have more than a two-point advantage on the other in any of the first three quarters. North Pike led Natchez High 9-8 after one quarter of play, but the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Jaguars 9-7 in the second quarter for a 17-16 edge at intermission.

Both teams picked up the pace some in the third quarter. The Lady Jaguars outscored the Lady Bulldogs 13-12 to tie the game at 29-29. But the Lady Bulldogs would respond in a big way with a 20-12 advantage in the fourth quarter to escape with the eight-point win.

Candi Gray led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 22 points and Kya Singleton chipped in with 10 points. The Lady Jaguars were led by Kadasia Wansley with 20 points.

Natchez High (9-9) returns to MHSAA Region 6-5A action Friday when it hosts Wingfield High School at 6 p.m.

Natchez High boys 63, North Pike 60

SUMMIT — Charles Credit led Natchez High School with 26 points as the Bulldogs overcame a shaky third quarter to defeat the North Pike High School Jaguars 63-60 Tuesday night.

Natchez High played a good first half and looked like it on its way to a double-digit win after taking a 33-24 lead into halftime. However, the Jaguars got back in the game by putting up 18 points while holding the Bulldogs to 11 points to trail by just two points, 44-42.

But the Bulldogs regained their composure and their offense as the outscored the Jaguars 19-18 in the fourth quarter. Kedarrius Stampley added 15 points and James Singleton had 11 points for the visitors.

Natchez High (10-5) plays host to Wingfield High School in an MHSAA Region 6-5A match-up Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Tensas High girls 56, Delta Charter 47

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Toya Bethel led Tensas High School with a game-high 24 points as the Lady Panthers held on for a 56-47 win over the Delta Charter School Lady Storm Tuesday night in LHSAA District 2-1A action.

Tensas High took a 19-8 lead over Delta Charter after one quarter of play and went into halftime with a 34-18 advantage. But the Lady Storm would not go away easy. Led by Cloi Cummings and Kierra Neal, they outscored the Lady Panthers 14-11 in the third quarter and 15-11 in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, Delta Charter ran out of time and the comeback attempt fell a little bit short. Cummings led the Lady Storm with 16 points and Neal finished with 14 points.

Delta Charter (9-11, 2-1) hosts Ouachita Christian School Thursday at 6 p.m.

Tensas High boys 73, Delta Charter 49

ST. JOSEPH, La. — A rough second quarter proved to be too much for Delta Charter School to overcome as the Storm lost to the Tensas High School Panthers 73-49 Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Tensas High only led Delta Charter by one point, 12-11, at the end of the first quarter before the Panthers outscored the Storm 21-9 in the second quarter to go into halftime up 33-20. The Storm was not able to put forth a rally in the second half.

Nikel Brooks led the Storm with 15 points and Rykeion Glasper had 11 points.

Delta Charter (N/A, 1-2) plays host to Ouachita Christian School Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy girls 66, ACCS 51

BROOKHAVEN — Jana Case led all scorers with 34 points as the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars defeated the Adams County Christian School Rebels 66-51 Tuesday night.

Brookhaven Academy jumped out to a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and ever so slightly added to its lead in each of the final three quarters. Shelby Mason led the Lady Rebels with 22 points and Danyel Weir contributed with nine points.

ACCS (0-13) returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. when it plays at Central Private School in its MAIS District 5-AAA opener.

Brookhaven Academy boys 80, ACCS 32

BROOKHAVEN — Sean Beard had a game-high 20 points and Dawson Flowers ended up with 17 points to lead the Brookhaven Academy Cougars to an easy 80-32 win over the ACCS Rebels Tuesday night.

The Cougars dominated the first quarter and led the Rebels 27-6 at the end of the quarter and was never seriously challenged after that. Brookhaven Academy led ACCS 42-18 at halftime and 65-26 by the end of the third quarter.

Tyler Lindsey led the Rebels with seven points and Yohan Thompson had six points.

ACCS (1-10) plays at Central Private School in its MAIS District 5-AAA opener on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Hazlehurst girls 46, Wilkinson County 21

HAZLEHURST — Zyniyia White finished with 11 points and Acacia Stewart had 10 points as the Hazlehurst High School Lady Indians cruised to a 46-21 win over the Wilkinson County High School Lady Wildcats in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game.

The final margin of victory could have been a lot worse for Wilkinson County had the Lady Wildcats not come alive in the fourth quarter and outscored Hazlehurst 17-7.

The first and third quarters were really rough for the Lady Wildcats. How rough? They didn’t score a single point in either quarter. They trailed the Lady Indians 22-0 after one quarter of play and were outscored 6-0 in the third quarter to go down 39-4.

Asia Clark led the Lady Wildcats with a game-high 14 points.

Wilkinson County (2-6, 0-1) plays at Franklin County High School Friday at 6 p.m.

Hazlehurst boys 54, Wilkinson County 46

HAZLEHURST — Freddie Byrd III and LeDarrion Earls led Wilkinson County High School with 15 points apiece, but it was not enough as the Wildcats lost to the Hazlehurst High School Indians 54-46 Tuesday night in their MHSAA Region 7-3A opener.

Hazlehurst took a 14-10 lead over Wilkinson County after one quarter and all but put the game away with a 21-11 advantage in the second quarter for a 35-21 halftime lead. The Wildcats tried to come back in the third quarter as they outscored the Indians 14-8 to cut the lead to eight points, 43-35, at the end of the quarter.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they couldn’t carry that momentum into the fourth quarters as both teams scored 11 points.

Wilkinson County (1-10, 0-1) will play at Franklin County High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Cathedral girls 35, Amite School Center 31 (Mon.)

NATCHEZ — The Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave jumped out to a big lead and then had to hold off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Amite School Center to defeat the Lady Rebels 35-31 Monday night for their first win in just over a month.

Cathedral led Amite School Center 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. And then came the second quarter and the Lady Green Wave dominated on both ends of the court, outscoring the Lady Rebels 16-5 for a 26-12 halftime lead.

But what should have been an easy win for the home team turned out to be anything but. The Lady Green Wave (5-10) continued to play good defense in the third quarter and held the Lady Rebels to seven points, but they scored just six points. Even so, Cathedral still appeared to be comfortably ahead, 32-19.

Amite School Center relied on defense to cut the lead to single digits and the Lady Rebels nearly pulled off an improbable comeback. They outscored the Lady Green Wave 12-3 over the final eight minutes, but it was not quite enough.

It was the first victory for Cathedral’s varsity girls’ basketball team and first-year head coach Michelle Kaiser since defeating Wilkinson County Christian Academy back on Dec. 6, 2018.

Baylee Graning led the Lady Green Wave with 13 points and Madeline Smith scored eight points. Jolie Freeman led the Lady Rebels with 10 points and Mary Claire Aitken added seven points.

Cathedral boys 40, Amite School Center 28 (Mon.)

NATCHEZ — Sam Mosby led Cathedral High School with a game-high 16 points as the Green Wave pulled away for a 40-28 win over the Amite School Center Rebels Monday night.

Colby Passman added nine points and Clayton Devening had eight points for the Green Wave (4-10), which outscored the Rebels 12-6 in the third quarter and 10-8 in the fourth quarter after leading by just four points, 18-14, at halftime.

Austin Griffin led Amite School Center with 14 points and Jaden Morris chipped in with 10 points.

It was the Green Wave’s third win in its last six games after starting the 2018-2019 season with a 1-7 record.
