VIDALIA — Despite heavy rainfall this morning, organizers say a planned fireworks show will still go on this evening.

The Vidalia Beautification Committee’s 2018 New Years Eve Fireworks Show is still planned for 6 p.m., said Sabrina Doré, president of the fireworks committee.

Doré said that weather forecasts show the rain will be moving out at approximately 3 p.m. today.

“As long it is not actively raining at 6 p.m., the show will go on,” Doré said.

The show will be conducted on the Mississippi River and will last approximately 10 minutes, Doré said.

It will be the same caliber as the firework display at October’s Great Mississippi River Balloon Race, Doré said.
