NATCHEZ — Services for Carl Edward Day Sr., 58, of Jackson, formerly of Cannonsburg, who died Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cannonsburg.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Day was born March 27, 1960, in Natchez, the son of General Jenkins and Beatrice Day Holmes.
He served honorably and retired from the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal and Army Commendation Medal for his service during the Persian Gulf War, as well as other accolades.
Day was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Sarah Day; paternal grandparents, Carrie Tyler and General Jenkins; and stepfather, David Thompson.
Survivors include his mother; his father and wife, Bessie; one son, Carl E. Day Jr.; one stepson, James Woolfork Jr.; fiancée, Angela Garner; two sisters, Gretchen Buckles and husband, David, and Ingrid Graise and husband, Vincent; five brothers, Clyde Holmes and wife, Patricia, Cyrus Day and wife, Patricia, David Day and wife, Nia, and Derrick Holmes; three uncles, Charles Day and wife, Mildred, Robert Day and Donald Day; five aunts, Lillie Strickland, Dolores Jones, Ora Doss, Mary Hamberlin and husband, Lavern, and Cassandra Guice and husband, Dudley; two godchildren, Deontae Edward Buckles and LaDonna Day; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
