Not only has Christmas arrived in the Miss-Lou via Christmas decorations and events, but also the weather has begun dipping to complete the holiday experience.

So far, we’ve enjoyed Christmas Parades in Natchez and Vidalia, Christmas caroling throughout downtown Natchez and Christmas tours of homes in Natchez and Vidalia this season.

Christmas events, however, are not the only good news items we have enjoyed recently.

Here is a look at some of the other top good news items from the past week:

* Ten cameras have been installed in several high-crime areas of Natchez in an effort to deter crime and help in making arrests or people who commit crimes.

The cameras were funded and installed under Project NOLA, a New Orleans nonprofit foundation that operates a crime camera program throughout the nation.

The cameras are now being monitored by the Natchez Police Department and by the time the camera installation was announced last week, one arrest had already been credited to the cameras.

* Ferriday High School senior Lillionna Campbell sang the national anthem to open last Wednesday’s New Orleans Pelicans vs. Dallas Maverick’s NBA game that was televised nationwide.

She not only represented herself and her school well with the performance, but also the entire Miss-Lou. Congratulations, Lillionna.

* Area leaders, including Natchez Aldermen and Adams County elected officials met last week with legislators from throughout the region to get a jump on outlining priorities they hope to see addressed in the upcoming legislative session in Jackson.

That’s a great start to getting the priorities accomplished that will benefit our area.

We hope the effort pays off.
