BROOKHAVEN — Ty Bertelsen finished with a hat trick and Joseph Garrity scored one goal as Cathedral High School defeated the Brookhaven Academy Cougars 4-2 Thursday night in the Green Wave’s MAIS Division III South, District 4 opener.

The match was scoreless until Brookhaven Academy broke through in the 19th minute of the first half for a 1-0 lead. Cathedral took control just a few minutes later when Bertelsen scored his first goal at the 22nd minute to tie the match at 1-1.

Then Garrity gave the Green Wave the lead for good with his goal in the 30th minute. Bertelsen made it 3-1 when his shot found the back of the net in the 37th minute.

Cathedral took that lead at halftime and then went up 4-1 on Bertelsen’s third goal of the match and the Green Wave’s fourth consecutive goal in the 14th minute of the second half.

The Cougars scored their second and final goal of the match in the 31st minute of the 2nd half.

Cathedral (2-3, 1-0) next plays at Central Private School in a Division III South, District 4 match on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
