NATCHEZ — Charles Credit led a balanced scoring attack for Natchez High School with 13 points as the Bulldogs held on for a 58-45 win over the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats Tuesday night.

James Singleton added 11 points, Travon Jackson had 10 points, and Alex Miller chipped in with nine points for Natchez High, which had to turn to its defense twice to get past a stingy Wilkinson County team.

“Hats off to Wilkinson County. They did a good job adjusting from the first time we played them and that frustrated our players, especially early on,” Bulldogs head coach David Haywood said.

The Wildcats didn’t let the Bulldogs’ half-court defense slow them down in the first quarter, which ended with Wilkinson County leading Natchez High 17-13. But a change in defense allowed the Bulldogs to outscore the Wildcats 18-6 in the second quarter to go into halftime up 31-23.

“We extended our defense out a little bit. We changed from a half-court to a three-quarters trap. We created a few turnovers because we had difficulty making shots tonight,” Haywood said. “We missed eight lay-ups in the first half alone.”

After both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter, Wilkinson County cut the lead down to single digits early in the fourth quarter before Natchez High would pull away.

“It wasn’t our best performance, but we grinded it out defensively,” Haywood said. “We were able to get some stops midway through the fourth quarter and that extended our lead a little bit. They had a little momentum going.”

Meliq Nehila made six 3-pointers and led Wilkinson County with a game-high 20 points and Freddie Byrd III had seven points.

Wilkinson County (no record given) hosts Brookhaven High School Friday at 7:30 p.m. Natchez High (4-1) plays host to Ferriday High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Natchez High girls 54, Wilkinson County 19

NATCHEZ — The Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs dominated the Wilkinson County High School Lady Wildcats throughout the first half, especially the first quarter, in a 54-19 victory Tuesday night.

The opening eight minutes pretty much determined the outcome of this game as the Lady Bulldogs put up 20 points while the Lady Wildcats did not score a single point. By halftime, Natchez High was comfortably ahead of Wilkinson County 38-9.

Aja Carter led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points and Kya Singleton had 12 points. Chernecie Smith led the Lady Wildcats with six points.

Wilkinson County (no record given) hosts Brookhaven High School Friday at 6 p.m. Natchez High (5-3) hosts Ferriday High School at 6 p.m. Friday.

Madison Parish boys 58, Vidalia 38

VIDALIA — The Madison Parish High School Jaguars had three players score in double figures and used a big first quarter to defeat the Vidalia High School Vikings 58-38 Tuesday night.

Madison Parish jumped out to a 20-9 lead over Vidalia after one quarter of play and never looked back. Jaquan Wilson led the Vikings with a game-high 14 points.

Vidalia (1-4) hosts Tensas High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Madison Parish girls 59, Vidalia 36

VIDALIA — The Madison Parish High School Lady Jaguars cruised to a 59-36 win over the Vidalia High School Lady Vikings Tuesday night.

Vidalia was only down 14-10 at the end of the first quarter before Madison Parish started to pull away with a 13-8 edge in the second quarter for a 27-18 halftime lead. The Lady Jaguars put the game away with an 18-9 advantage in the third quarter.

Jamiya Smith and Keeda Washington led the Lady Vikings with eight points each.

Vidalia (1-2) will play host to Tensas High School Friday at 6 p.m.

Carroll boys 62, Ferriday 46

FERRIDAY — Montrieze Sandidge led Ferriday High School with 23 points, but it was not enough as the Trojans lost to the Carroll High School Bulldogs 62-46 Tuesday night.

Ferriday (3-4) next plays at 5 p.m. Thursday against Bastrop High School at the Delhi High School Tournament.

Ferriday girls 43, Carroll 28

FERRIDAY — Diamond Johnson and Tierra Spurs finished with 11 points each as the Ferriday High School Lady Trojans defeated the Carroll High School Lady Bulldogs 43-28 Tuesday night.

Led by Johnson, Spurs, and Shekayla Miller, who had 10 points on the night, the Lady Trojans dominated the first quarter on both ends of the court on their way to a 15-3 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. Both teams played to a stalemate in the second quarter and Ferriday took a 28-16 lead into halftime.

The Lady Trojans controlled the pace in the third quarter and by quarter’s end led Carroll 39-20. The Lady Bulldogs had just one player score in double figures.

Ferriday (5-2) takes on Bastrop High School today at 3 p.m. at the Delhi High School Tournament.

Centreville Academy boys 54, ACCS 45

CENTREVILLE — Jeff Carroll led Centreville Academy with a game-high 23 points as the Tigers needed a big third-quarter rally to defeat the Adams County Christian School Rebels 54-45 Tuesday night.

Centreville Academy found itself trailing ACCS 6-4 at the end of a tough first quarter for both teams and 24-17 at halftime. However, the Tigers turned up their defense pressure a few notches and found their rhythm offensively in the third quarter.

Those two things led to the Tigers outscoring the Rebels 26-10 to take a 43-34 led. Unfortunately for the Rebels, they were unable to get back the momentum in the fourth quarter that they gained in the first half.

Austin Blanton led the Rebels with 16 points and Jonathan Ratcliff finished with 13 points.

ACCS (1-2) hosts Copiah Academy Friday at 7:30 p.m. Centreville Academy (record not given) will be on the road Thursday when it plays at Brookhaven Academy at 7:30 p.m.

Centreville Academy girls 65, ACCS 44

CENTREVILLE — Led by Savannah Hailey’s game-high 31 points, the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers defeated the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels 65-44 Tuesday night.

Centreville had its way with ACCS in the first half and continued to add to its lead after the break. The Lady Tigers led the Lady Rebels 19-8 after one quarter of play and 34-12 at halftime. Just to make sure the Lady Rebels would not come back, the Lady Tigers outscored them 15-12 in the third quarter.

Danyel Weir led the Lady Rebels with 25 points and Shelby Mason contributed with 13 points.

ACCS (0-5) plays host to Copiah Academy Friday at 6 p.m. Centreville Academy (no record given) plays at Brookhaven Academy Thursday at 6 p.m.
