NATCHEZ — A memorial service for Margaret Breithaupt Pool, 81, who died peacefully and in the presence of family, Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at St. Mary Basilica.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pool was born Nov. 26, 1937, in Natchez, the daughter of Lea Joseph Breithaupt and Marguerite Mulvihill Breithaupt.
She was a 1955 graduate of Cathedral School. Margaret met her husband at a high school dance, and, after a long engagement while Jack attended college at Millsaps, they were married in 1958. In Oxford, while Jack attended law school at the University of Mississippi, Margaret made and sold linoleum block prints and worked in the office of an insurance adjustor. Back in Natchez, she devoted her life to raising their three children, was active in community theatre, the Pilgrimage Garden Club and the Natchez Adams County Humane Society.
A parishioner at St. Mary Basilica, Margaret lit thousands of candles and prayed often to St. Anthony for lost things. She always read several books at a time, among which could usually be found a bit of Agatha Christie and a bit of Shakespeare. She tended her garden, and every stray cat that found its way to her.
She and her husband, Jack Edward Pool, moved to Dallas in 2011.
Pool was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Lea Joseph Breithaupt.
Survivors include one son, Christopher Pool and wife, Kathleen Sanguinetti Pool; two daughters, Leslie Pool DeShazer and husband, Dennis, and Bridget Pool Broadley and husband, Shaun; one grandson, Michael Graham; three granddaughters, Julia Carson DeShazer, Caroline Pool Hayes and Margaret Pool;
one sister, Molly Rose Anderegg and husband, Ralph; brother-in-law, Gary Pool; and seven nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Natchez Adams County Humane Society, the Natchez Little Theatre and St. Anthony’s Poor Box at St. Mary Basilica.
