VIDALIA — An explosion on Murray Drive turned heads Friday afternoon, but no one was injured.

Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill said he arrived on scene to see if he could help shortly after he heard about the incident.

However, the Concordia Sheriff’s Department received the call about an explosion at approximately 2 p.m. Friday at Array Operating — owned by Clifton Ford of Vidalia, Merrill said.

“Some kind of tanker truck exploded in the pipe yard behind Popeye’s,” Merrill said. “The pressure caps blew off the top of the truck and blew part of the roof off the shed.”

The incident caused structural damage to the shed and a small fire that was put out by a water hose within 10 minutes after the fire department arrived, said Mary Alan, a dispatcher at the Concordia Sheriff’s Department.
