NATCHEZ — If a pint or a quart of gumbo sounds appetizing to you this time of year, you’re in luck.

The annual Trinity Episcopal Churchwomen’s benefit food sale is from 9 a.m. until noon Friday in Kuehnle Hall at the church, 305 S. Commerce St., Natchez.

The churchwomen have been busy in recent days making more than 100 quarts of chicken and sausage gumbo to sell during the event, said Phebe Winters, co-president of the churchwomen’s group.

The food sale benefits the different groups in the community that the churchwomen’s group contributes to, including the Stew Pot, Habitat for Humanity Pleasant Acres Day School and other organizations, Winters said.

“It is a tradition,” Winters said of the food sale. “The women of the church, in the Trinity Episcopal Churchwomen’s group, have been doing this for decades. The purpose is for us to make money that we put back into the community in the form of help to different groups in the community.”

In addition to the gumbo that sells for $8 a pint and $16 a quart, church members will donate other food items that will be sold at the event, including baked goods, soups, desserts and casseroles, that also will be for sale at the event, Winters said.

Another highlight of Friday’s sale is a chance to buy raffle tickets to be entered for a chance to win a dollhouse modeled after Stanton Hall that was made in the 1970s.

Raffle tickets for the dollhouse are $5 apiece and the drawing will be held on Dec. 16, Winters said.
