The ArtsNatchez Silent Auction is underway.
More than 200 pieces of artwork from area artists are on display at the ArtsNatchez gallery 425 Main St., Natchez, where bidders can submit bids on items until Dec. 8.
This year marks the ninth year of the silent auction, proceeds of which help support ArtsNatchez, organizers said.
The cost to operate the ArtsNatchez gallery, said ArtsNatchez Board Member Mary Ann Spell, run between $1,000 to $1,200 a month to operate the gallery that shows the work of approximately 30 local artists, who work in a wide variety of media including oil, water color, photography, pottery, jewelry and wood creations.
In order to keep doors open, ArtsNatchez relies on contributions from patrons each year and the annual silent auction in which visitors can submit bids on items featured at the gallery and the bidding process lasts a month.
Bidding began this year Nov. 7 and ends Dec. 8 with a reception featuring wine and refreshments at the ArtsNatchez gallery.
The silent auction usually raises around $5,000 for the gallery, Spell said.
“People who donate win, because they get to take it off their taxes,” Spell said. “People feel like they get bargains and number three, we get money to keep the lights on.”
Everything sold is just to help support ArtsNatchez.
People are still welcome to donate up until the auction’s bidding finale and a free wine-and-refreshments reception beginning at 6 p.m. with bidding ending approximately 7 p.m. Dec 8.
ArtsNatchez is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and people are welcome to start bidding in increments of $10.
