Sun appears briefly Wednesday before freezing temperatures plummet

The sun finally came out just before sunset Wednesday after several days of clouds and rain. Some residents reported seeing a sprinkling of snow and sleet during the day, but nothing like the snow showers in the Delta and North Mississippi.
With partly cloudy and clear skies tonight, the temperature is forecast to plummet into the 20s. A freeze warning is in effect for the area until 9 a.m. Thursday when temperatures will gradually rise into the 50s — a warm afternoon compared to the last few days.
After one more night of freezing temperatures, things should begin to gradually warm up. With sunny skies, the weekend is looking to be cool, but nice overall — good football weather for the two local teams that will be vying for a state championship Saturday in Jackson.
