JACKSON — The State Board of Education approved a $690,463 grant to be distributed over a three-year period to the Franklin County School District, the state board announced Thursday.
The Franklin County School District will receive $246,594 for each of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. They will receive $197,275 for the 2020-21 school year.
The grants will come from the State Board of Education’s distribution of $16.2 million in federal funds for 21st Century Community Learning Center grants.
The grants fund the establishment of community learning centers for academics, arts and cultural enrichment in high-poverty, low-performing schools. The State Board said these programs typically are offered after school.
