NATCHEZ — More than 9,886 voters turned out for Tuesday’s election with 52.63 percent of the county’s 18,878 registered voters casting ballots.

The number of voters does not reflect an approximate 1,000 paper ballots yet to be counted, nor does it include the Liberty and Concord districts, which were not retrievable at press time due to a memory card error, said Election Commissioner Chair Larry Gardner.

In the U.S. Senate race in Adams County, David Baria, D-Bay St. Louis, took 54.92 percent with 5,427 votes in the unofficial count over U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss, who had 41.64 percent and 3,986 votes. Statewide, however, Wicker reclaimed his Senate seat.

Libertarian candidate Danny Bedwell received 1.26 percent with 121 votes. Reform Party candidate Shawn O’Hara received .39 percent with 37 votes.

In a special election to fill the seat of resigned senator Thad Cochran, R-Miss., the unofficial leader in Adams County was Democratic candidate Mike Espy with 54.92 percent and 5,296 votes. Republican candidate Cindy Hyde-Smith had 31.32 percent with 3,020 votes.

Tea party candidate Chris McDaniel received 11.91 percent with 1,148 votes. Independent candidate Tobey Bernard Bartee received 1.84 percent with 177 votes. Statewide, Espy and Hyde-Smith will face one another in a runoff Nov. 27.

In a tight race for the U.S. House of Representatives 3rd Congressional District, Democratic candidate Michael Ted Evans led with 57.08 percent and 5,491 votes. Republican candidate Michael Guest had 41.92 percent and 4,033 votes. Reform Party candidate Matthew Holland received .99 percent with 95 votes. Guest won the seat in the full district’s tally.

David McCarty led the non-partisan race for Court of Appeals District 4 judge with 54.52 percent and 4,303 votes. Jeff Weill Sr. was second with 23.48 percent and 1,853 votes, followed closely by Byron Carter with 21.73 percent and 1,715 votes. District wide the vote was too close to call late Tuesday.

David M. Ishee was unopposed for the Southern District Supreme Court District 2 Position 1 and received 6,886 votes.

E. Vincent Davis was unopposed for Chancery Court Judge District 17-1 and received 2,724 votes.

George Ward was unopposed for Chancery Court Judge District 17-2 and received 5,009 votes.

Lillie Blackmon Sanders was unopposed for Circuit Court Judge District 6-1 and received 3,496 votes.

Debra Blackwell was unopposed for Circuit Court Judge District 6-2 after the death of her opponent Holmes Sturgeon. Blackwell received 91.36 percent with 4,651 votes. Sturgeon received 430 votes.

Walt Brown ran unopposed for County Court Judge and received 8,286 votes.
