NATCHEZ — Tessa Wilson, a senior at Adams County Christian School, said she believes in equal justice and that everyone should have fair representation in the legal system; that is why she has a bright future as an attorney.

Wilson said she learned her passion for law by working as a legal assistant at Benoist Law Offices in Natchez.

“I put in my resumé and they hired me on the spot,” she said. “I do everything from summarizing medical records to answering phone calls … basically anything they need me to do.”

Wilson said law school has always been an interest of hers, but her seriousness for it grew after working at Benoist’s. Wilson said she became particularly interested in worker’s compensation cases, making sure those who are injured on the job can still provide for their families.

“It’s a good way to help people and be involved in the community,” she said. “I’ve seen insurance companies not give people what they need when they’re injured.”

Wilson said she plans to study psychology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe before going to law school.

She also is a member of the KEY Club, Student Council, Honor Society, National Beta Club and was a member last year of the Natchez Youth Leadership program in which she toured City Hall and the police and sheriff’s departments and learned about local government.

Wilson is the daughter of Jennine and Rudy Wilson and the stepdaughter of Brandyn Wilson.
