STARKVILLE — Adams County Christian School senior quarterback Sterling Yarbrough threwfive touchdown passes as the Rebels upset the Starkville AcademyVolunteers 32-13 Friday night in the second round of the MAIS ClassAAA State Playoffs.

Yarbrough completed 11 of 17 passes for 296 yards with just oneinterception. Yohan Thompson had three catches for 64 yards and twotouchdowns. Kemari Clark had three receptions for 52 yards and twotouchdowns. Jakarius Caston had four catches for 160 yards and onetouchdown.

Caston was also the Rebels’ leading rusher with seven carries for 43yards. Cory Sewell had five carries for 25 yards and Yarbrough had 23yards on 22 carries.

No. 14 seed ACCS out-gained No. 6 seed Starkville Academy (9-3) 387yards to 261 yards. Both teams had seven first downs and neither teamwas had many penalty flags thrown against them.

Meanwhile, Starkville Academy junior quarterback Garrett Lewis had atough night, completing just10 of 28 passes for 191 yards with one touchdown pass and fiveinterceptions. Clark picked off three of his passes. Yarbrough and GregJones each had an interception.

DJ Stampley had a team-leading eight tackles while Cory Sewell hadseven tackles and both Caston and Thompson had six tackles.

ACCS (4-7) will travel to Columbus to take on No. 2 seed HeritageAcademy in a semifinal-round game Friday at 7 p.m. Heritage Academytook care of No. 7 seed Leake Academy 43-13.

Centreville Academy 38, Winona Christian School 14

WINONA — In perhaps the biggest upset of the entire 2018 MAISPlayoffs, the No. 7 seed Centreville Academy Tigers stunned the No. 2seed Winona Christian School Stars 38-14 Friday night in the secondround of the Class AA State Playoffs.

Winona Christian (8-4) scored at the 8:44 mark of the second quarterto take a 14-6 lead before Centreville surprisingly took over, scoringthe final 32 points of the game.

And that included two touchdowns andtwo two-point conversions late in the second quarter for a 22-14halftime lead.

And, the Tigers’ defense shut out theStars over the final two and a half-plus quarters.

Centreville Academy (7-5) will travel across the state to Bay Springsto take on No. 2 seed Sylva-Bay Academy in the Class AA SemifinalsFriday at 7 p.m. Sylva-Bay Academy edged past Tri-County Academy 27-24to advance.
