FERRIDAY — Beekman Charter School will try to play the role of spoiler Friday night when the Tigers travel to Ferriday to take on the Ferriday High School Trojans in an LHSAA District 2-2A match-up.

Kickoff between Beekman Charter (1-8, 0-5) and Ferriday (6-3, 5-0) at Melz Field will be at 7 p.m. While the Tigers are out of playoff contention, the would like nothing more than to keep the Trojans from possibly getting a higher seed.

Ferriday, which has already clinched a home playoff game in the first round, is at No. 3  in the Class 2A power ratings for the second straight week after its dismantling of Delhi Charter School last Friday night.

“If we can close out as district champions, we will finish in the top five, anywhere from No. 3 to No. 5, depending on how things go Friday night,” Trojans head coach Stanley Smith. “Our district strength of schedule is kind of hurting us. It’s kind of tough to figure out. We’ll just wait until Sunday when the brackets are released and go from there.”

One thing is for sure – Ferriday will not take Beekman Charter for granted despite the Tigers’ struggles this season.

“Their quarterback is very athletic. He can throw the ball. Their running back is very athletic,” Smith said. “They have a very scrappy defense. We have to come out and play our kind of football and if we do that we’re going to secure the district championship.”

Smith said the offensive line and the defensive line will have to have a big game for Ferriday to come out on top Friday night, adding, “The game is always won up front.”
