Viewfinder: Halloween Paws Event 2018 promises freakish fun

NATCHEZ — Lisa Flattmann said she has loved Halloween since she was a child.

“It’s in my blood; I can’t explain it,” Flattmann said. “Halloween is my season. I don’t get excited about Christmas, but Halloween lights me on fire.”

On Friday, Flattmann will share her love of Halloween by opening her house for the annual Natchez-Adams County Humane Society Halloween Paws fundraising event for 2018.

This year’s event is being dubbed the “Freakshow Friday Paws Event” and Flattmann has decorated every room of her house for Halloween.

The event will feature approximately 17 items to be auctioned, all of which were donated by local businesses and physicians.

Entertainment for the night will be provided by DJ James Kennedy from the television show “Vanderpump Rules.” Kennedy will DJ on a 10-foot-by-10-foot stage set up in the backyard.

Inside the house, each room will feature decorations with a Freakshow theme.

The entryway decorations feature a “Phantom of the Opera” theme and a side room is dedicated to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

A hallway is decorated with skeletons depicting Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and Britney Spears that lead you to a room modeled after several seasons of the television show, “American Horror Story,” with other surprises waiting to greet guests.

“This particular theme I’ve had in my mind for two years, and I don’t think I’m going to be able to top this,” Flattmann said. “I’ve had two years to buy this stuff. Two years to think about it. Two years to plan, and holy cow on top of that we’re having James Kennedy. That’s unbelievable.”

Flattmann said she enjoys the whole process of planning the Halloween event.

“I could just keep going,” Flattmann said. “That’s the problem. I have to get to a point where I’m like, OK that didn’t make the cut. No one will know it wasn’t there, move on.

“I just enjoy it that’s all I can say, my family gets involved, my kids and my husband all help. My husband supports the entire project, pays for it. He’s the premier sponsor for the entire event. It’s a family affair.”

The party is open to anyone who would like to attend. Tickets are $35 and are available at the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society until 4 p.m. Friday, or you can pay in person outside of Flattmann’s house Friday.
