NATCHEZ — Police arrested a Natchez man Thursday and charged him with three counts of kidnapping at gunpoint.
Carlos Lewis, 32, was arrested at 4:53 p.m. Thursday, and was being held without bond late Thursday, authorities said.
Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the alleged kidnapping occurred just after 8 p.m. Sunday. Two of the people kidnapped were cousins of Lewis who were juveniles, Armstrong said.
Armstrong said Lewis went to Holiday Apartments and confronted the individuals who he believed to have taken a .22-caliber rifle and possibly other items.
“He took them away from the Holiday Apartments and tried to get his items he alleged they had taken from him. He finally just let them go,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said the three victims reported to the police that Lewis and one other individual kidnapped them.
Armstrong said too often people try to resolve issues that are best left to law enforcement.
“Cooler heads need to prevail in a lot of instances,” Armstrong said. “We have too many people running around here and going for retaliation without going through law enforcement. You run the risk of being arrested, being hurt or being killed.”
Armstrong said another arrest is expected.
