NEW ERA, La. — Services for James “J.D.” Lipsey, 85, of Monterey, who died Sunday, Oct. 21,2018, in Monterey, will be 10 a.m. today at New Era Baptist Church with the Rev. Dustin Davis, the Rev. Dennis Baker and Ethan Lipsey officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Lipsey was born April 13, 1933, in New Era, La., the son of James Lipsey and Lillie Priest Lipsey.
He was raised in Monterey, where he lived his entire life. He was a 1951 graduate of Monterey High School and a lifelong member of New Era Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Lipsey married Joyce Charrier and they raised four sons together while farming, raising pigs, cows and riding horses. He was employed by International Paper Company in Natchez. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed western novels, Louisiana State University sports and the Houston Astros.
Lipsey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Charrier Lipsey; one brother, Alvin Eugene Lipsey; and two sisters, Dorothy King and Faye Trisler.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Priest Lipsey; four sons, Daniel Hall Lipsey and wife, Cherie, Steven Jan Lipsey and wife, Teresa, Hugh Alan Lipsey and iwfe, Paula, and Craig David Lipsey and wife, Sonia; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step- children; 10 step-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Lipsey Mumphrey.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Jon Lipsey, Ethan Lipsey, Ian Lipsey, Josh Lipsey, Kile Lipsey and Simeon Lipsey.
