FERRIDAY— Delta Charter School fell 31-26 to the St. Frederick High School Warriors in a homecoming loss for the Storm.

A 21-point second half for St. Frederick was the key to the victory over the Storm in this LHSAA District 2-1A game. 

“They made some adjustments with two high safeties,” said Delta Charter head coach Blake Wheeler. “They really turned the tide.”

With the loss, the Storm dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in district play.  

“Their record doesn’t reflect what type of team they are,” St. Frederick head coach Andy Robinson said. “They’re getting healthy and getting better every week.”

The Storm entered halftime leading 20-10.

With 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Delta Charter quarterback Trey Poole threw an interception that was picked off by the Warriors’ Pat Johnson.

Poole’s interception led to 21 straight points for the Warriors. 

“Trey Poole is our senior leader, and the boys really rally around his performance,” Wheeler said. 

Poole hooked up with Rykeion Glasper for an 80-yard touchdown at the 4-minute mark of the second quarter. In the first half, Poole was 9-of-15 passing for 211 yards with three total touchdowns. 

“They made some big plays against our defense in the first half,” Robinson said.

St. Frederick (6-2, 4-1) of Monroe, La., did not allow a touchdown in the second half until 1 minute remaining in the game. 

“We tried to run the football when they pulled a player out of the box, but we were unable to do it,” Wheeler said. “You win some, you lose some.”

Despite the loss Wheeler said he believes that Friday’s game had a lot of positives. 

“Our kids came out and fought hard against a veteran opponent, and we forced a couple of field goals on good goal line stands,” Wheeler said. “Overall I’m proud of our kids.” 

Next week the Storm will travel to Cedar Creek to take on the Cougars (4-5, 1-4). 

“Our kids are scrappy and tough,” Wheeler said. “We plan on going in next week and getting a win.”
