WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Christian Academy’s homecoming game against Franklin Academy on Friday night was marred by injuries to both teams in the first half of what was a competitive ball game.

So much so that Franklin Academy’s coaching staff, led by head coach Michael Cottingham, decided to call off the game with 1:01 remaining until halftime with WCCA leading 20-8 with three players out, including with a concussion. He and his staff felt like there were not enough players left to finish the game.

The Rams had just scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from D’mario Weathersby to R.J. Fisher that put them up by 12 points. That was their second touchdown connection of the first half. The first went for 72 yards with 9:06 to go in the second quarter and Hunter Gaines added the two-point conversion run to put them up 8-0.

WCCA also felt the injury bug when D’Shun Hunter injured his left elbow playing defense in the first quarter. The first quarter alone took over an hour to play because of two injury delays.

Weathersby scored on a four-yard touchdown run at the 5:00 mark of the second quarter to put the Rams up 14-0. The Cougars answered when Wesley Gwin scored on a one-yard run and C.J. Smith added the two-point conversion run to make it 14-8.

Weathersby went 6-for-8 passing for 200 yards with the two TD passes, was the team’s leading rusher with 14 yards on four carries, and had five tackles and an interception on defense. Fisher had four receptions for 180 yards and two scores to go with four tackles and one sack on defense.

Landon Giroir also had five tackles while Gaines, Roderick Bailey, and Chuck Grover each had four tackles.

While WCCA had plenty of success through the air, Franklin Academy (1-7) had some success on the ground with 110 total rushing yards.

WCCA (5-3) travels to Tallulah, La. to take on the Tallulah Academy Trojans Friday at 7 p.m.

Centreville Academy 46, Amite School Center 19

LIBERTY — The Centreville Academy Tigers put an end to their three-game losing streak with a 46-19 victory over the Amite School Center Rebels Friday night in MAIS District 4-AA action.

Centreville Academy started off the blowout with a touchdown, a successful two-point conversion, and a safety to go up 10-0 by the end of the first quarter. The Tigers added two touchdowns and two two-point conversions to take a 26-0 lead into hafltime.

The onslaught didn’t stop there. The Tigers went up 32-0 at the 10:25 mark of the third quarter before Amite School Center (1-8, 0-2) finally ended the shutout bid with 4:43 left in that quarter, yet still trailed 32-6.

Centreville made it 40-6 in its favor with a touchdown and another successful two-point conversion with 2:23 remaining in the third quarter.

With the Tigers having their second- and third-string player in the game for the fourth quarter, the Rebels scored two touchdowns to make the final score more respectable.

Centreville Academy (4-5, 1-1) plays host to Clinton Christian Academy in the district and regular-season finale Friday at 7 p.m.
