VIDALIA — Kylyn Lewis and Blake Tarver led the Ferriday Trojans’ defense as they defeated the Vidalia Vikings 22-7 Friday night in one of the Miss-Lou’s biggest rivalries.
“We just couldn’t block them, and we couldn’t execute our offense,” said Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth.
Lewis finished the game with three and a half sacks as well as three tackles.
“Me and my other defensive lineman came out with hard work, and we got it done,” Lewis said.
Tarver had three sacks of his own.
“I’m all gas, no brakes,” Tarver said. “Practice, teamwork, and assignment execution is what helped me perform well tonight. Coach tells us that every day.”
Ferriday head coach Stanley Smith said he was proud of his team’s performance.
“We practiced hard all week, held each other accountable and played hard tonight,” Smith said.
The win for Ferriday puts the Trojans (4-3, 3-0) in first place in the LHSAA District 2-2A standings.
“It’s going to be tough winning district now that Ferriday has the inside track after just beating us,” Faircloth said. “It was a big win, and had big, big implications on district championship.”
In the second quarter, Jamien Green caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Kobe Dillon and fell into the end zone to put the Trojans on the scoreboard.
After the catch, the officials got together to discuss whether not it was a fair catch. The officials ruled the play a touchdown.
After the touchdown catch from Green, the Trojans scored 15 straight points to extend their lead. Dillon finished the game with 130 yards passing, and 25 rushing yards.
The Vikings (5-2, 3-1) scored with 1:14 remaining in the game on a touchdown catch from Tristan Weatherly to DeMikal McCoy.
Next week Vidalia travels to Tioga, Louisiana, to take on the Class 4A Tioga Indians.
Ferriday will host the Mangham Dragons next Friday.
“We work where we’re from,” Smith said. “We’re resilient, not satisfied, and it’s next opponent up,” Smith said.
