NATCHEZ — Charges have been dismissed against one of two suspects in an Aug. 29 shooting that occurred near Old Country Club Road, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Wednesday.

One of the victims had earlier identified Terrence Flowers, 20, as a suspect both in a line up and in a written statement, Patten said.

“Since then, the victim has recanted the statement, for whatever reason,” Patten said. “When (the victim) went to justice court, they recanted the statement, and the justice court made the right decision in dismissing the charges.”

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 near Old Country Club Road when a car pulled up next to a vehicle being driven by a woman with four juveniles inside and a person in the car began shooting into the woman’s vehicle.

The driver was shot in the bicep, and she drove herself to Natchez Fire Station No. 3 from where she was transported for medical treatment of the non-life-threatening gunshot wound, Patten said at the time.

Authorities initially searched only for Jamionte Davis but further investigation led to Flowers being a suspect, Patten said.

Both Davis and Flowers were charged with five counts of attempted murder each.

Flowers’ charges were all dismissed Tuesday.

Patten said the victim had been adamant in earlier statements that Flowers was involved in the shooting but changed testimony in justice court on Tuesday.

“Do I think other factors went into that (change of testimony)?” Patten said. “Yes. Can I prove that at this point? No.”

Patten said the victim has since identified another suspect in the shooting and the sheriff’s office is investigating.

“As for Mr. flowers,” Patten said, “We’re sorry that happened to him, but truth be told, if we had a witness as adamant as the victim was, we would do it again.”

Davis, Patten said, is still at large and still has a warrant for his arrest on five counts of attempted murder, and investigators believe Davis is in the Natchez area.
