FAYETTE  — Two guns recovered last week in Fayette were stolen in Natchez, Fayette Police Chief Shawn McMiller said.

Approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 28 three men were pulled over in Fayette after police said they received reports the men were pointing guns out the window of a moving 2017 Dodge Charger.

McMiller said police discovered two guns in the vehicle, an AR-15-style rifle on the back seat and a .380-caliber, semi-automatic pistol under the passenger seat.

McMiller said investigation revealed both guns had been reported stolen in a burglary that took place in Natchez.

Reginald Butler and Ronnie Griffin, both of Natchez, and Michael Coleman Jr. of Franklin County were arrested without incident for possession of stolen firearms, McMiller said.

Coleman also was charged with possession of an illegal substance and less than 5 grams of marijuana, McMiller said.

All three men were released on bond until their court date on Nov. 13, McMiller said.

Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said one of the firearms was reported to have been stolen in a car burglary two weeks ago and that the other one was reported stolen in July.

Armstrong commended the gun owners for logging the serial numbers on their firearms, which allowed the Natchez Police Department to track them through the National Crime Information Center.
