CLINTON, La. — A safety and a blocked extra point, both in the fourth quarter, proved to be the difference as the Adams County Christian School Rebels defeated the Silliman Institute Wildcats 14-13 Friday night in an MAIS District 5-AAA game.
With ACCS holding on to a 12-7 lead after three quarters of play, Dawson Parker sacked Silliman quarterback Brock Berthelot in the end zone for a safety and a 14-7 Rebels lead with 9:49 remaining.
The Wildcats responded with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Berthelot to Ben Lejeune with 5:50 left in the game. But the Rebels blocked Jack Jackson’s extra point to maintain their one-point lead and the defense preserved the win.
After a scoreless first quarter, Jakarius Caston would return a punt 66 yards for a touchdown at the 4:30 mark of the second quarter, but the two-point conversion attempt was no good and ACCS had a 6-0 lead.
The Rebels increased their lead to 12-0 on D.J. Stampley’s four-yard TD run with 7:55 to go in the third quarter.
However, Silliman (3-4, 0-1) would answer when Berthelot connected with Lejeune on a 47-yard touchdown pass. Jackson’s extra point was good and the Wildcats were only down 12-7.
Caston had 12 carries for 69 yards while Stampley had 13 carries for 48 yards. Sterling Yarbrough was 9-for-18 passing for 134 yards and one interception. In addition to his safety, Parker also had six tackles and four sacks.
