Yes, good news was abundant throughout the Miss-Lou last week, not the least of which was that the westbound span of the Natchez-Vidalia bridge over the Mississippi River opened both lanes to traffic over the weekend after one span was closed for more than a year during repair and refurbishment work.

The project was completed months ahead of schedule and traffic should be flowing much more efficiently now.

That was not the only good news last week. Below we’ll recount a few of the other top good news stories of the past week:

* Fall Pilgrimage began last Friday, opening private historic houses to the public and brining in tourists from far and wide to learn about Natchez’s history.

* Members of the St. Catherine Neighborhood Watch group have created a community garden.

Volunteers work to grow and harvest fresh vegetables that are distributed to members of the community, including elderly residents. The effort is to ensure that everyone has fresh, healthy food. The group’s efforts represent the best of community spirit.

* Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell has formed a new economic development council to further the city’s efforts in retaining and growing the city’s business interests. Grennell has compiled a diverse group of some of the area’s best economic leaders.

We look forward to enjoying the fruits of their efforts.
