NATCHEZ — Adams County announced Tuesday it would award the county’s waste collection contract to Metro Service Group, effective starting Dec. 1, 2018.

Metro Service Group contract is $56,307.96 per month, said county attorney, Scott Slover, and $9.72 a month per residential unit for twice-a-week service.

The county is currently paying Waste Pro $9.41 per residential unit, Slover said, and would not elaborate on the change in contract providers.

“We’re looking for Waste Pro to finish out their contract, and up until now, we haven’t had any issues with their service,” Slover said. “We’re hoping that we can finish out our contract with Waste Pro without any complications and be able to give them a good recommendation with other counties.”

The next competitor for the contract was Hometown Waste LLC at a rate of $9.70 per household. Slover said it was worth the extra two cents for Metro Service Group.

“Metro offered longer years of service and a better garbage truck … with a two penny difference between the two,” Slover said.

In other matters, the Adams County Board of Supervisors continued the Sept. 14 meeting after a recess on Tuesday afternoon with present board members approving the following motions by a vote of 3-0, with supervisors David Carter and Mike Lazarus, who are attending a Leadership Mississippi convention in Washington, D.C., absent:

  • To allow Cable One to dig underneath county roads and install internet service at the Meadows subdivision located south of Beau Pre.
  • To make a cash request for the Belwood levee project in the amount of $211,162.81 to be reimbursed to the county through the Delta Regional Authority grant.
  • To pay $16,339.20 to Jordan Kaiser and Sessions LLC for phase II of the Belwood levee project, which should also be reimbursed by the DRA grant.
  • To match the Community Development Block Grant with $3,345 to replace the roof on the Adams County Health Department building.
