Good news from last week

Last week was a memorable week, for many reasons, not the least of which was Tuesday’s remembrance of the horrific events of 9/11.
People throughout the nation paid tribute to those who lost their lives and sacrificed to protect our freedoms, and the Miss-Lou was no exception.
Despite the 9/11 attacks, our nation is still standing 17 years later, and that is the silver lining from such a somber commemoration.
Otherwise, no shortage of good news existed in the Miss-Lou last week, and below we offer a recap of some of the stories that confirm what a great nation we have.
*4 Sherman and Jerry Briggs met at the Sandwich Bar in Ferriday half a century ago and it was love at first sight. And although it was love at first sight it was not fleeting and the marriage will have endured 49 years as of Sept. 26, despite ups and downs including Sherman’s battle with post-traumatic stress disorder from his time in serving in Vietnam.
* Vidalia High School Student of the Year, Sam Cooley, has a bright future ahead of himself with his love of history, writing and journalism. The senior cited his editorship of his school’s yearbook and involvement with the student newspaper. Cooley as keys to his interest in writing and journalism.
* Enrollment numbers are up at Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Natchez campus and overall at Alcorn State University. That is good news, indeed. Educated citizens are more employable and help boost the area’s drawing card for potential industries and employers.
Those are just a few of the positive stories from the Miss-Lou last week, and we’re sure more good news is ahead this week.
