FERRIDAY — Da’miya Milligan scored on a 15-yard run and added the two-point conversion run late in the fourth quarter as the LHSAA Class 2A Ferriday High School rallied to defeat the Class 5A LaGrange High School Gators 21-20 Friday night at Melz Field.
Trailing 20-13 and with time winding down in the ball game, Ferriday’s defense had to come up with a big play to give the Trojans a chance.
And that unit did just that with a big turnover.
“Every time you can compete against a 5A team and win, it speaks volumes,” Trojans head coach Stanley Smith said. “For our kids to fight through adversity and battle back, it speaks volumes about our team.”
Smith said that every time his team would have a big play, it would be called back by a penalty.
Another thing Ferriday had to overcome was bad field position. Yet through it all, the Trojans managed to prevail despite being down 14-13 at halftime and 20-13 in the third quarter to LaGrange (0-3).
“It’s a big win, especially for the power points,” Smith said.
Da’minya Milligan ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
Jyrin Milligan completed 13 of 29 passes for 178 yards with one interception. Jamien Green had four catches for 88 yards.
Ferriday (1-2) plays at Rayville High School in the LHSAA District 2-2A opener next Friday at 7 p.m.
