NATCHEZ — All seven seniors for Adams County Christian School’s varsity softball team were in the starting lineup for the host Lady Rebels on Thursday night in their MAIS District 5-AAA finale against Central Private School.

And most of them came through in a big way, especially at the plate and on the base pads, as ACCS scored eight runs over the first two innings and took care of the visiting Lady Rebels from Central Private 11-0 in five innings.

“We came in and did the job we were supposed to do and got it over with quick,” ACCS head coach Tate Lipscomb said.

Shelby Mason got the start on the mound and quickly gave up a base hit. That would be the only base runner for Central Private as Becca Cowan entered and did not allow a hit, did not walk any batters, did not hit any batters, and struck out four in five innings.

Mason did have a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and scored three runs. So did Marlee Magee, who was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, one stolen base and one run scored.

Carly Delaney went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Savanna Spear was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Caroline Cotten was walked twice, stole two bases and scored one run. Makenna Patt also was walked twice, stole three bases and scored once.

“It was a team effort. Everybody played great,” Lipscomb said. “It was senior night. All (of them) started and all of them produced.”

Well, almost all of them. Brooke Martin was hit by a pitch, but did not have an official at-bat.

Despite the win, ACCS will finish in third place in District 5-AAA behind Cathedral High School and Silliman Institute.

ACCS (12-11, 3-3) hosts Bayou Academy Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

CLINTON, La. — The Cathedral Lady Green Wave had one more chance to win the MAIS District 5-AAA championship after losing to ACCS last Monday night.

Instead, Cathedral lost to Silliman Institute 9-7 on the Lady Wildcats’ senior night and ended finishing in second place even though both teams had 4-2 district records.

After losing to the Lady Green Wave by one run earlier this season, the Lady Wildcats had to win this game by two runs to win the district title and they did just that.

Cathedral (10-8 overall) plays at Centreville Academy next Monday at 7 p.m.
